1. Galatians 2:15 (NIV)
Galatians The colonists used a lot of different ideas to form their own governments. In the state constitutions, natural rights, higher law, social contract, popular sovereignty, representation, separation of powers, checks and balances, and legislative supremacy were included. These ideas are seen in the Declaration of Independence and in the Constitution. The colonists thought that the people should have the power and that they had the right to elect representatives and legislators. A strong legislature was thought to be the best way to effectively avoid the abuse of power, because the power was shared. They created a limited government. The Articles of Confederation appointed little power to the central government, making it ineffective. After the British ruling of a tyrannical government the states feared that this would happen again. Therefore the head of state only held administrative power. The Articles lacked having an efficient manner of voting for the change of an article without a unanimous vote from the states. (Change that sentence) This process was very lengthy and took up a lot of time. Diplomacy and war-making played a big part in the government and how it would function. The Northwest Ordinance was created for the establishment of territory in the west. The government could also not tax the states for the debts created by wars.
