In 1941, Hilter and his rise to power caused millions of deaths among the LGBTQ, the physically and mentally disabled, gypsies, and Jews in an event known today as the Holocaust. Throughout his reign, a Nazi Revolution began, and played into the beginning of WW. Hitler wanted all races except the master, “Aryan” race to be exterminated from Germany, and he called this the ‘Final Solution’. He created death camps, in which those who were unable to work were separated and killed. After . million Jews, Gypsies, disabled, and LGBTQ members were killed, Hitler took his own life, and Nazi Germany surrendered. After the surrender, however, death marches continued, resulting in the death of 375,000 more, making the total death count . million. The aftermath of the Holocaust made it difficult for the survivors to return home, as most of them had lost friends, and entire families. In 1945-1946, the Nuremberg trials brought the atrocities of the event to light, and the public began to take notice of the effect it had on their community. Through this troubling time, the people learned to educate themselves, and to not follow a person of power blindly. They also learned the importance of protecting the vulnerable, and the impact of the responsibility of memory.
